After graduating from Glennallen High School, he attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York for more than two years. Subsequently, he transferred to Rutgers College in New Brunswick, New Jersey where he obtained a BA in physics and BS in geology. Josef received an MS in geophysics from the University of Arizona, Tucson for his research and fieldwork on seismology and global tectonics of the Bolivian Andes. Currently, he is employed as a geophysicist in Alaska and spends his free time traveling, hiking, climbing, snowboarding, skydiving, and writing.
