"If You Were Me and Lived in...France-A Child's Introduction to Culture Around the World" is the second book in Carole P. Roman's remarkable series about countries all over the globe. With each book covering a different nation, Roman opens up a world of wonder while highlighting the fact that underneath it all we are far more alike than we might have imagined. Focusing on what life would be like from a child's viewpoint, she examines the diversity of the people who make up our planet. " If You Were Me and Lived in... France is the one she was most excited about. The earliest of her ancestors to immigrate to the New World came from France to Canada in the mid 1600s. The food aspect of the France book stood out to Trina. We subscribe to Universal Yums, which sends a box of snacks from various countries. For her birthday last month, Trina got a box from France, which I presented with this book. Every time the book mentioned food, Trina pulled out her box to see if they had sometime that related. Trina was thrilled to try some of what she was reading about." - Debra Brinkman, Footprints in the Butter (blog) "My youngest...actually volunteered to sit down and read without my pressuring her. This is huge, because she is not a big reader." - Puddle Jumping "...children up to age seven or eight will enjoy this book, and the pronunciation guide will help adults reading to youngsters. If You Were Me and Lived in...France...is a good place to start for young people interested in learning about different countries and cultures." - Foreword Reviews, Clarion Review "It is the simplistic and positive way that Roman, a former social studies teacher, delivers the text, that makes this series appealing-the books are short and to the point and just what you want when you're introducing geography and culture to the youngest reading set. Francophiles and travel enthusiasts just may be created after a read-aloud session followed by a snack of crepes filled with a warm chocolaty hazelnut spread. Bien!" - Bianca Schulze, The Children's Book Review "Roman is also the author of the charming Captain No Beard series, and her approachable writing style succeeds here as well...the author ably explains cultural similarities and differences, and the colorful illustrations help keeps thing light." - Kirkus Review "The book is written in such a fun and informative way, that even the adult can learn along with the child. In France, Roman takes us to Paris and introduces us to places and people that we might see. Rather than using the words we are used to, she introduces us to a Boulangerie (boo-Lawn-jair-EE) or a bakery. By teaching us the correct French words and pronunciation we can really understand the culture. You can teach your child the word and pronounce it together....in effect learning a new language!" - Sincerely Stacie, blog "These books were an amazing and fun way to take kids on a journey learning about children in other countries and learning about different cultures, how the people live, and some of the fun facts about the country. My kids have had a very fun time learning about other countries with these wonderful books." - Nicole, mamaofmanyblessings.com, blog "As a parent who wants her children to learn about other cultures as well as appreciate the differences and similarities, these books are a great tool to help us reach that goal." - Laura, daybydayinourworld.com, blog "The pictures in the books are bright and eye-catching making you want to know more. They are geared towards young kids and I know that my young ones (and older ones) have enjoyed reading them. Affordably priced at just under $9. any of the books in this series would make a wonderful addition to a unit study" - Jacquelin, astablebeginning.com, blog " If You Were Me and Lived In ... France by Carole P. Roman is one of a series of books that libraries, schools, and homes will want to collect. Each book takes you into a country and explains the traditions, geography, and culture of the country. I like the world map that shows where in the world the country is located. Of course, the illustrations help to demonstrate the topics. The book is organized into topics that are easy to understand, such as currency, stores, common names, and common words. The colorful illustrations combine real photographs in the background with drawings in the foreground. I found myself going back through the book to study the illustrations and guess which part is real and which part is the drawing. If You Were Me and Lived In ... France should be a part of every school library. I believe teachers will enjoy sharing this introduction to France with their students and that parents will want to expose their children to other countries and their traditions."
